My dad sent me some pictures today from when I weighed 200 pounds. Tomorrow morning, I’ll post them alongside some more recent pictures. I haven’t seen them side-by-side, but I’m pumped to see the difference!

My Husband: The Chef

Mr. PattyCakes likes to cook. Unlike me, he is able to look in the fridge and randomly put shit together and come up with amazing restaurant-quality dishes. Every time. I am one lucky wife.

Let’s take tonight, for instance. We wanted chicken (slash, I had one thawed, and we needed to use it), and Patty wanted to work on his sauce-making skills. So I was instructed to get the heck out of the kitchen while he worked his magic. The outcome: a deliciously creamy sauce that went perfectly over lemon pepper chicken and deliciously fluffy couscous. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of this beautiful dish because we devoured it, but believe me: it was fantastic.

This has made the lightbulb go off in our heads. Why don’t we do a chopped challenge: I choose the random ingredients, and Patty cooks a delicious meal.

In other news, today was day 2 of the Warrior 90 Day Challenge. So far, it is pretty easy, but I can feel it, and it gets my ass in motion….so that’s good!

I’m also in the need of a completely new wardrobe. I have no idea where to begin. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I look like I’ve stepped out of the beginning of an episode of What Not to Wear every day, but I’ve made so much progress on my weight loss journey. I’ll take it!

I’m baaaaack!

Well, I have officially been MIA for over three weeks now. I am so sorry from the depths of my heart. In order to make it up to you, let me share what’s been going on:

1. I took a road trip to Port Aransas with PattyCakes and The Bug.

2. I finally had a bachelorette party! My besties and family came down from Nebraska and took me to the one place the knew I wanted to go: A karaoke bar! It was a blast!

3. I traded in my old last name for a new last name! That’s right, folks! Ms. V is now officially Mrs. P! The wedding was small, and it was a blast! We couldn’t have asked for a better crowd, ceremony, reception, and party. I’m telling you, if you want to have a perfect beach wedding with a tiny budget or a huge budget, visit portaweddings.com and talk to Joanne. She made my day perfect and I literally had no stress on my wedding day thanks to her!

So what am I up to now? Well, friends, I’m starting school in less than a week to get my nursing degree. I am uber excited for this one. I have at least one online class every semester, so I will have plenty of opportunity to blog during the course of my education, don’t fret.

As far as health goes, I gained 5 pounds during my wedding weekend. But I ate like a fat girl at a buffet and drank like an alcoholic at an open bar (I had to keep it classy!), so it was expected. I got right back on track with eating healthy (no exercise, but I forgot to come up with an excuse for that one), and am down 4 pounds. Woot!

As far as the exercise thing goes, I’m starting the HASfit 90 Day Warrior today. I was going to start yesterday as it was Monday, and all exercise programs have to start on Mondays. If you hold a bowl under your computer screen, I believe you can collect the sarcasm as it drips from that last line. I forgot to come up with an excuse for that one (my excuse bank is really running low; I need to stock that shit up!), but I do know that I decided that eating a couple slices of real turkey dipped in mustard, a 100 calorie bag of popcorn, and a Tabasco Slim Jim were more important than working out for the allotted 15 minute first day workout. Hey! At least I was healthy for the most part! I also made a kickass turkey and quinoa meatloaf last night that rocked my husbands socks off. Now I’m just trying to compensate for my lazy self. Enough. Workout today after work. Period. Maybe do two days in one. Yeah.

I did take before pictures this time. I want to stick with this program for the full 90 days, and will update you on my thoughts once a week. Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll have thoughts about other things throughout the week too, so I will post more often than just once. But you must keep me accountable!

Health!

Let me start out by saying…holy shit. I’m getting married in less than two weeks. I am so excited! My final dress fitting is in two days! I hope it fits!!!!!

In other news, I am officially feeling loads better! I am starting my workout routine back up today after work, and of course I have a billion other things to do, but working out is of utmost importance!

My post-work schedule:

  • meal prep for tomorrow

I know I can do it! I am so excited to work out today! I love that feeling!

It probably stems from the fact that I totally cheated on my diet this weekend (bar, crawfish boil, takeout chinese food…..Whataburger). I CAN’T BELIEVE I ATE FAST FOOD!!!!!! But instead of hating myself, I’m going to remind my body what it’s like to feel good. Hence the workout. Also, I’m a little bit of a fatso….

Long time no see!

Sorry for the hiatus, everyone. I have been sicker than something that is really sick. Bronchitis, sinus troubles, a cough that won’t go away. Yuck! And of course this happens 2 weeks before the wedding! Oh well! I’m feeling my better today than I did last week, but shit I’m tired! I cough the entire night and get no sleep. Ever. Ok. Enough complaining. It’s boring.

I’ve been told by everyone that I should NOT work out while sick. Something in my head screamed at me that I would become obese if I took any time off (can we say psycho?), so I attempted to keep lifting during the first couple weeks of sickness. At first it wasn’t so bad, but then I started HATING my workouts. That is NOT what I want. I’m making a lifestyle change, and I’m not very well going to want to continue something if I despise it. So I’m taking time off. Still. I tried to do some cardio yesterday, but felt like I was going to die 15 minutes in. Ugh. At least I burned some calories!

On to nutrition: I have been staying on my diet, meeting my calorie goals every day, and I’ve still lost weight! I think the nutrition aspect has finally clicked for me; eating healthy=bigger portions=staying fuller longer. Eating shitty foods=smaller portions=hungry in 5 minutes or less. Here’s an example of a delicious breakfast from the other day:

Sweet potato hash and turkey sausage with 1 tsp olive oil, salt, pepper, and rosemary. 1 egg over easy. A few dashes of Cholula, Dexter style:Image

We did a crawfish boil at our friend’s house the other weekend, and it was REALLY easy to stay within my calories. Crawfish tails aren’t fatty at all. Just stay away from the squeeze butter, potatoes, and corn and you’re golden! I even had room for way too much beer! And possibly some Fireball shots. I did NOT feel like a champ the next morning. 🙂Image

We’ve been getting pretty creative with our dinners at home. The other night we had Jalapeno Popper Baked Stuffed Chicken. That makes no sense, but that’s what it was. Thank you, skinnytaste. Last night, PattyCakes made some bacon wrapped shrimp on the cast iron grill pan with some sweet potato hash. We love sweet potato hash. I don’t have pictures, but I’m sure you can imagine the deliciousness.

Plateaus and Other Horror Stories

I found myself at a bit of a plateau last week and did the most retarded thing I could think of: go on a fad diet. For some reason, my fucked up mind thought it would be a good idea to starve myself 2 days a week in order to lose weight. In theory, I’m sure it would work. But I just got sick. No thank you!

It’s called the 5:2 diet. Eat like shit for 5 days (I stuck to my regular healthy diet), and eat 500 calories for 2 days in a row (I cut that 500 down to anywhere between 0 and 200). I was a bitch, I acquired a cute illness that makes me feel like my head is filled with helium, and I lost…..2 pounds. I didn’t have the energy to work out, and I blamed it on the sickness. F that S!

Moral of the story: I’m going to continue to eat right and exercise. It’s a lifestyle I can continue for the rest of my life. And let’s face it, I feel awesome every day when I eat healthy and work out!

On a happy note, PattyCakes and the Beaux built me a fort so I could breathe in Vicks vapors (slash just so I could play in the fort):Image

And I made a new workout shirt! I did a shitty job, but no one goes to my apartment gym anyway 😀

I’ll leave you guys with a little water drinking tip I like to use. In order to get all of my water in for the day, I drink a glass of water on the hour every hour. It somehow makes the day go faster, and I’m super duper hydrated. Score!

Dress Fitting

I went in to the dress shop today for my first (and only) fitting, and…..it didn’t fit! I haven’t been in for about 4 weeks to try the dress on, and since then I’ve lost 10 pounds and loads of inches. I don’t give a poop how much the alterations cost. The feeling I got when I had to hold the dress on me even with the corset tied as tight as it would go was priceless.

To top off my experience, my boob fat that I’ve been working so hard to remove has gone down significantly. Also, my shoulders/back are getting some definition. Score! I spent 15 minutes flexing and talking about how epic my muscles are becoming.

The alterations lady told me I needed to stop losing weight. I told her she was high. Apparently that was lost in translation. I told her to take it in more than the markers, and to let the corset do the rest.

Cheers to a great day, an amazing 2 hour workout with a friend, a glass of wine, and the best fiance a girl could ask for. I am the luckiest girl in the world.
