A Man who Cooks!

What an awesome day! I worked out my chest and triceps:Imageand KILLED it!!!! I ate amazing food today, and still stayed under my weight watchers points! I stepped on the scale to see a 3.8 pound loss for the past week. Woot!

PattyCakes got off of work super early, so we picked up The Bug and went grocery shopping for dinner, which Patty said he would cook.

Blackened shrimp. Jasmine rice. Cajun corn on the cob. I am the luckiest woman alive!

The marinade (worcestershire, lime juice, tabasco) and some blackening seasoning:ImageCooked on our beautiful cast iron skillet:Image

It turned out amazingly! We will definitely be doing this one again!!ImageImage

Have you ever wondered how to clean a cast iron without ruining it or having to re-season it? I always did, and the thought scared me so much that I never got one until recently. But it turns out that it’s super-duper easy!

All you have to do is pour some kosher salt (nothing fancy, just some $2.00 kosher salt) in the pan once it’s cool enough to handle. If there is a lot of grease, you can heat the pan back up a bit.Image

Then you take a regular old paper napkin and rub the salt around, using some elbow grease to get at the stuck on parts. Image

Once your skillet is nice and smooth, rinse it briefly with some hot water (don’t use cold, or your pan may warp) then put it back on a burner on high heat to make the water evaporate. Once it has evaporated, turn off the burner, put some high heat oil in the pan (I use either vegetable or canola, I don’t know if that’s textbook, but it works for me!), and rub it around until all used parts of the pan are coated. ImageImage

And you are left with a beautifully seasoned and clean skillet. I love love love my cast iron; I don’t know what I would do without it!

Until my next adventure,

Mrs P

I am a 20 something focused on being a kickass mommy, fiance, cook, and worker-outer. I love everything about cooking (besides desserts, but I'm working on that), and I always try to make everything healthy. I live in Houston with my fiance PattyCakes, my son, The Bug, and my 2 puppies, Sir Reginald and Beaux. I absolutely love my family and would do anything for them. But I won't do that. I love crappy scary movies, disney movies, indie music, Hank III, classic rock, horribly childish jokes, naughty language, reading, Harry Potter, lifting weights, cooking, football, Nebraska, and being outdoors. I am getting married in May to the absolute love of my life. He is my greatest supporter in everything that I do, and my best friend and joke-provider. I lost a shit ton of weight a few years ago (193 down to 142 in 3 months) by eating healthy and doing P90X. I gained 25 pounds of that back, and am now working to get back down to a healthy weight using Weight Watchers and LiveFit. So far so good! So, read, enjoy, learn something, teach me something, and have fun!
